baxter + thrum were commissioned to create a design concept for this 72-unit block, with the aim of enhancing property value for sale to a developer. The concept had to appeal to a broad demographic, be timeless and cost effective.
We introduced a light-coloured exterior render with dark accents on window frames and balconies to provide a sophisticated lift to the building, and make the internal courtyards feel light. The front façade has been layered with textures –sandstone accents on vertical blade walls, dark horizontal bands across balcony balustrades and a patchwork of perforated metal privacy screens.
The interior colour palette is simple and fresh – dark timber floors contrast with clean white walls, finished with dark trims to windows and doors. Overall, the neutral palette provides a classic base for tenants to build their homes around.
We proposed a more bold design in the kitchens. Here the design works as a backdrop to the living spaces and injects personality in to the apartments. Understated but confident, the kitchen designs directly appeal to the target demographic.
