Jonah’s Boutique Hotel

The end user and their comfort was front of mind for this project. baxter + thrum were engaged to create elegant and opulent rooms that left a lasting impression on their guests. People come to Jonah’s for special occasions, for celebrations, so we wanted to design spaces that reflected that.

In terms of design, baxter + thrum invited the stunning ocean vistas and surrounding environment inside. The tones, the textures and colour palette take inspiration from the northern beaches lifestyle. Vertical linear elements to the joinery and wall panelling with accents of navy upon soft whites and oatmeal hues are an ode to things nautical in a contemporary way. Gold and brass accents in the joinery and wallpaper add to the sense of luxury and opulence.

The solid oak herringbone parquetry flooring and wall panelling play on the traditional, resulting in a timeless and sophisticated room. Billowing sheers and soft block out curtains frame glazing in each room. Quilted bedheads are upholstered in a shimmery patterned fabric like reflective water. Mirror has been used inside the custom designed mini bars and over the bedheads to reflect the ocean views and give the sense of depth. The robe and minibar joinery is all timber lined, this subtle change of materials from the exterior to the interior enhances that user experience.

The design focussed on the guest and how they would use the spaces— it was about their comfort and their experience. Each room has a touch screen either side of the bed so everything can be operated at the touch of a finger. Custom made dining tables introduce the texture of aged timber in a refined way, coupled with comfortable dining chairs where guests can site and enjoy a meal taking in the view.

The overall result is relaxed yet sophisticated, a place where guests can rejuvenate and unwind in luxury on Sydney’s beautiful northern beaches.
